National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) chose Teton Science Schools’ Kelly Campus as the place best suited to offer their Wilderness Emergency Medical Training (WEMT) month-long course. Training is rigorous for the 28 participants who are enthusiastic in their praise of the course and what they are learning.
Some are here as a job prerequisite, such as National Forest Rangers. Many come from unrelated fields. One trainee is a cook who loves to fish in remote areas and wants to be prepared for the wilderness. Another holds several part-time jobs and considers the training essential preparation for daily living. Yet another plans to attend a primitive wilderness training school that requires EMT certification. Her grandfather told her to come to the NOLS training here in Kelly because he had just talked with someone who took the training here at Teton Science Schools and said it was an absolutely perfect place for all the simulations and supportive atmosphere. She added, “He was so right!”
