Last week, twenty-five eighth graders from Cheyenne, Casper and Sheridan, Wyoming were here learning about winter ecology as they studied the sage, aspen, conifer and riparian communities.

One morning, the group I shadowed found fresh moose tracks and a hollowed area where the moose had bedded down, complete with a few remaining long
black guard hairs left behind as the moose moved on.

Another day, students traveled to the Taggart Lake Trailhead where they donned snowshoes, many for the first time, and headed up the trail to dig snow pits.

Overall it was fun-filled with of learning winter ecology.
