Journeys School

Integrating ecology, culture and community to ensure academic excellence and personal success
for Pre-K through 12th grade students in a college preparatory, independent school setting.

Journeys School

Journeys School is a Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade independent school in Jackson Hole, Wyoming engaging college-bound students with an innovative and challenging curriculum that cultivates life long learning. Our philosophy incorporates a strong core academic program, exceptional relationships between teachers, students and parents, and an integrated approach where learning is made relevant through understanding the local and global community. The core academic program combines fundamental skills and knowledge with the modern concepts of leadership, creativity, communication, collaboration and problem-solving.

Journeys School objectives include:

  • achieving academic excellence
  • nurturing creative potential and talents
  • giving service to community
  • honoring diversity
  • teaching others
  • understanding and stewarding the natural world

After a charter school application was declined in 2000, the school opened in the fall of 2001 as an independent school under the umbrella of Teton Science Schools. In the fall of 2005, the school moved into a permanent home on Teton Science Schools' Jackson Campus. At the same time and location, Teton Science Schools' Teacher Learning Center opened its doors to offer opportunities for visiting teachers to build professional knowledge and skills in experiential, integrated and place-based education. Journeys School was accredited by the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools in 2006.

As of fall 2008, there are 190 students enrolled at Journeys School with demand growing each year. Program development continues to ensure that the innovative, engaging and challenging curriculum reflects best educational practices. A primary initiative is the application to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in grades 11 and 12.

Ultimately, Journeys School will grow to serve 220 students. Journeys School and the Teacher Learning Center are known for their innovative approach to integrating ecology, culture and community into school settings and curriculum. The influence of Teton Science Schools is multiplied as trained educators apply these techniques in their own educational facilities.
