Professional Development
As part of our professional development program, faculty are allowed time to participate in growth opportunities throughout the year. Jessica Barksdale went to California this past June for the North American Reggio Emilia Alliance annual summer conference to interact with early childhood educators throughout the world. In late September through part of October, Erin Smith has the unique opportunity to complete a “study tour” of the schools in Reggio Emilia, Italy where the philosophy originated. She will bring back a wealth of information to make our program even better. Please click here for more information about this exciting happening.
“A Story” by Your Child
Starting Monday, we will start reading all the stories our students have written over the summer. If you have not yet given your child’s story to Erin, please try to do so by the beginning of the week. We look forward to learning more about each other through the stories we have created.
Sneakers!
Please send your child to school with a sturdy pair of outdoor shoes. Climbing Sagebrush Hill can be extra challenging in a pair of Crocs or sandals. We recommend providing your child with a pair of sneakers as their outdoor shoes and packing a pair of comfy crocs, slippers, etc. for their indoor shoes. You are welcome to leave your child’s indoor shoes in their cubby at all times for your convenience.
Labeling
Please make sure that all of your child’s belongings are labeled. Items that are labeled usually end up back with the right child while items that are not labeled typically end up lost. To avoid losing that new raincoat or comfy pair of indoor shoes or favorite water bottle, please label everything. One Pre-K parent recommended http://www.namebubbles.com/ for labels that stay on all kinds of items, including clothes that go through the wash. Thank you.
Thank You!
A HUGE thank you for all the supplies that have been pouring in! They will all come in very handy this year. If you would like to drop off supplies, you may do so at any time by placing them inside the office.
Snack
We appreciate parent support in providing a fresh fruit and veggie snack in the mornings. Thank you to the DesLauriers family for providing snack for the next two weeks of school! This is a huge help! The next family up is the Confers, scheduled for the week of September 26th. We also provide your children with afternoon snack at the end of the day. This usually consists of pretzels, fruit leather, crackers, popcorn, etc. If you have a conflict with the week that you are signed up for or have any questions, please direct them to Erin at erin.smith@journeysschool.org or 734-9874.
