Journeys School Young Alumni Panel

Journeys School High School, South Classroom
All Journeys School parents are invited to attend the Young Alumni Panel which will connect current Journeys High School students with our outstanding recent graduates from the Class of 2011. The panelists will share anecdotes from their freshman year, university and GAP experiences, provide advice and insight on the college process and the transition to college and answer any questions from the student or parent body. The session will be facilitated by Heather Marks, Director of College Counseling and Alumni Relations. Please RSVP to Heather at heather.marks@journeysschool.org or 734-3711.

Parents: Software Alert
Please remember all students need to have Microsoft Office software on their personal computers. This software is a necessity as students have assignments that utilize these programs. Computer requirements are listed in the Student and Family Handbook that is distributed at the beginning of the school year and is posted on the Journeys School website. Microsoft Excel is currently being used in science class and those students that do not have it or have an older version (2003 or earlier) are getting behind in their assignments. PLEASE supply this for your child as soon as possible. If you have any problems doing so please email Sammie Smith at sammie.smith@journeysschool.org. Thank you!

Earn One, Give One Opportunity on Campus
All 5th through 12th grade students are invited to join members of the “Snow Ball” Gala and Auction committee from 3:30pm-5:00pm on Wednesday, December 14th and Tuesday, December 20th in the Welcome Center lobby for a fun Earn One, Give One Service opportunity. We will teach students how to make (really cool) large paper snowflakes that we will be using for decorations. All supplies, cocoa and cookies provided. Please let Maggie Schilling (maggie.schilling@tetonscience.org) know if you can join us!

Lots of Giving!
As we are in the throes of the holiday season and are filled with the spirit of giving, Journeys High School students Hannah Wells and Tessa Landale have started a clothing and toy drive in conjunction with the Community Resource Center. They will be collecting clothing and toys, in good condition, until December 16th. If you would like to donate there are cardboard boxes in each of the Journeys School buildings and the Welcome Center. This project is part of Hannah and Tessa's International Baccalaureate, Community Action Service Grassroots Project, and they have established a community service club for the Journeys High School. This toy and clothing drive will be the first of many student-led service learning projects. If you have any questions feel free to contact Hannah at hannah.wells@journeysschool.org or Tessa at tessa.landale@journeysschool.org. Happy holidays!

IB Grassroots Project
As part of the International Baccalaureate program, 11th and 12th grade students are required to start and complete a Grassroots project. Journeys High School seniors Marilyn Garcia, Cassie Morales, and Megom Wangchuk started The Journeys School Students Tutoring Program. The program engages and aids 1st-3rd grade elementary students with homework and school related projects. The tutoring program is free and will run Mondays from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the children’s section of the Teton County Library. The first day of tutoring is December 19th. There will be no tutoring service during winter break, spring break, and other holidays. Tutoring will reconvene on January 9th and run until the end of May. For more information, please contact Megom at megom.wangchuk@journeysschool.org.

High School Lunch Room Missing Silverware
Have you found silverware at home that does not match your set or seems to have appeared from somewhere else? It may be that students have accidentally taken home silverware from school. Our forks and spoons are disappearing and running low. If you find odd silverware at home, will you please send it back to school with your child’s lunch? We would also appreciate any silverware donations to be used at lunch time.
