Our unique electives program has given our high school students the opportunity to work with a variety of local artists this spring. Students created clay vessels with Patty Reed, digital photography with Derek DiLuzio and mosaics with Sarah Lott. For a culminating project, students are creating a mosaic to honor Journeys School’s 10 year anniversary.
For a handful of high school students, this has been a wonderful opportunity to engage directly with local artists who are masters of their craft. The students have been able to discuss process, technique, material, and inspiration directly with the artists. The guest instructors have been equally impressed with our students. Derek wrote:
“Thank you so much for letting me teach your students. I had a fantastic time. I have to say your students have been the best I’ve taught to this point. They are polite, enthusiastic, very smart and an overall joy to work with. They are far better students than any college students I’ve taught so far”.
