Educating for a Vibrant World

Doug Walker Challenge Course

The Doug Walker Challenge Course is an outdoor, experiential obstacle course on the Jackson Campus of Teton Science Schools. It is an educational resource to help groups work together more effectively, to promote leadership and teamwork and to help individuals develop self-awareness and confidence. We also incorporate educational themes to teach students and participants about scientific topics and concepts.

The course is of a series of obstacles made with rope, cable and wood. It is a custom built course which includes low obstacles (two to three feet above ground) and high obstacles (ten to forty feet above ground). The obstacles challenge individual skills and encourage group cooperation towards successful completion.

Our challenge course offers team building events and exciting, challenging activities for groups of all ages and abilities. The low course offers no-fear activities, while the high course challenges your senses and skills while building confidence and team work.

About Doug Walker

Doug Walker loved life, his family, and the mountains. Teaching at Teton Science Schools in 1992, he dreamed of constructing a challenge course in Jackson Hole, facilitating growth for participants through experiential learning. Doug died from injuries sustained in a climbing accident in Grand Teton National Park on September 23, 1993. In May of 1995, Doug’s friends and family brought his dream of a challenge course to reality elsewhere in the valley. In 2013 the course was relocated to the Jackson Campus of Teton Science Schools.

The new course builds on Doug's original vision by incorporating state of the art design, features and construction. It enables community members and visitors alike to experience customized and interdisciplinary learning that incorporates science, place and leadership in an extraordinary setting. Thank you to all of the donors who made Doug's vision a reality!
