Bears are stocking up on food for their long winter naps, and wolves are hunting in the Lamar and Hayden Valleys due to the large concentrations of elk. Participants travel to the best sites for viewing elk, bears and wolves and enjoy the magnificent autumn colors of Yellowstone. In addition, the two-day trip may include stops at Old Faithful, the colorful Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs. Make reservations as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Itinerary

Day 1: Your biologist picks you up between 6:00-6:30 a.m. at your hotel in Jackson, Wyoming. Participants should arrive with packed personal items for a one or two nights stay. Please see equipment list for details of what you will need. We journey north through dramatic Grand Teton National Park into Yellowstone National Park searching for elk, bison, deer and pronghorn antelope. We stop along the way for breakfast at Signal Mountain on picturesque Jackson Lake and lunch at Old Faithful. After seeing the famous geyser erupt, we continue north to Mammoth Hot Springs. We then travel to the scenic Lamar Valley in search of bears and wolves, enjoying a light field dinner en route. The valleys where bears hunt for elk calves are the same areas where wolves den, centralizing predator activity. We spend the twilight hours continuing our search: a successful expedition depends almost entirely upon searching key areas during these evening hours. After dark, we drive to our accommodations in Cooke City, Montana. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 2: Following an early continental breakfast of pastries, fruit, and beverages, we return to the Lamar Valley in hopes of witnessing the morning hunt. Mid-morning, we leave Lamar—dubbed America’s Serengeti—to enjoy a hearty brunch at an area restaurant. Our return to Jackson may include stops at the colorful Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, crowned by a waterfall more than twice as high as Niagara Falls, and the rolling Hayden Valley, favored habitat for grizzly bears. Breakfast and Lunch included.
