Journeys School Receives $2 Million Award
Journeys School of Teton Science Schools has been selected by the Malone Family Foundation to receive a $2 million endowment grant award. The endowment will establish a Malone Scholars program at Journeys School, and will fund scholarships for identified talented and gifted students with financial need at the 7th through 12th grade levels. This gift allows the school to build on its current strong academic program including the International Baccalaureate curriculum. The endowment will also serve as a springboard for the school to expand its services to additional exceptional students throughout Wyoming and Idaho.
Journeys School is only one of 11 independent schools to receive this honor this year, and the only school chosen in Wyoming. Schools are selected to participate in the Malone Scholars Program based on their academic caliber, quality of faculty, attention to individual student needs, and commitment to financial aid. This prestigious program aims to empower schools to perpetually fund scholarships to motivated top students based on merit and financial need. Journeys School and its ten co-recipients will join 38 other select independent schools around the nation in hosting Malone Scholars, including the University of Chicago Lab School, Head-Royce School in Oakland, CA, Wilmington Friends School in Delaware, Maret School in Washington, D.C., and Rowland Hall-St. Marks in Salt Lake City. Journeys School is one of the smallest schools selected nationwide to receive the full $2 million endowment award.
Head of School Nate McClennen commented, “We are thrilled to receive this recognition of our outstanding academic program and look forward to providing access to additional extraordinary students from Teton and Lincoln counties in Wyoming, as well as Teton Valley, Idaho.” He continues, “With over 60% of our 3rd through 8th grade students scoring in the top 5% on national standardized assessments, we already serve talented students well; this grant will further enhance Journeys School’s ability to challenge each student in a meaningful way. Students with talent in leadership, the arts, and athletics also fit well in our program.”
