    David graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelors degree in English and went on to receive his Masters in Comparative Literature from the University of Utah. David is a founding faculty member of Journeys School. He has taught English and French at the college and high school levels since 1994. His graduate school studies focused on literary theory, 19th and 20th century Continental philosophy, French feminism, and North African French literature. David’s current professional interests include study of the power of myth in antiquity and today, as well as how culture positively and negatively affects the individual. David teaches students to have an empowered voice in writing and in speech.

    Drew first came to live in Jackson when he completed the Graduate Program of Teton Science Schools. Prior to returning to the area and joining the Journeys School faculty in 2001, he conducted wetland education for a non-profit program in Montana, led whitewater river trips across the Rocky Mountain region and taught in the Bozeman Public School District. Drew seeks to connect his student’s understanding of the past to current events and firmly believes that young men and women need to develop the skills of an historian as well as content knowledge. He loves to teach in an engaging, student-centered and, often, humorous manner. In addition to his passion for the past human experience, Drew enjoys reading, birding, and spending time on the water with his wife and son.

  • Shoshana Kobrin

    Shoshana has a great enthusiasm for teaching which brings her into many places in the Jackson community. She teaches Spanish to the high school students of Journeys School, as well adult classes for the Z Language School, knitting classes, and Spanish Yoga at the Akasha Yoga Studio. Shoshana hopes to enhance local community connection as well as global community connection by inspiring a love for language and culture. Shoshana truly enjoys teaching because she is able to encompass her interests and experiences and share them energetically with her students. Outside of school, one can find Shoshana playing in the mountains, knitting, practicing yoga, traveling, or spending time with her dog.

  • Ethan Lobdell

    Ethan received his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from Vassar College. He has been teaching for over five years in the public and private school classrooms of New Hampshire, New York and Wyoming. He has also worked for outdoor programs located in Costa Rica, Canada and Cape Cod. Currently Ethan is focusing on integrating technology and sustainability into the physics and math curriculums of the High School. He believes students learn best through experience and in the value of rigorous math study. Ethan loves to cook, travel, ski, climb and do just about anything he can that involves food, friends and the outdoors.

    Cate was first inspired to teach while underwater doing SCUBA research for her undergraduate degree in Marine Biology from UC Santa Cruz.  Following this dream Cate completed a Master’s degree in Biology and a Teaching Credential at Humboldt State University. Since moving to the Jackson area Cate has acquired a grant to provide the public schools with math manipulatives, led professional developments on their use, and taught middle school math at the Teton Valley Community School. When not in the classroom Cate enjoys snowboarding, fishing, and volunteering on the Teton Valley Idaho Search and Rescue.

  • Aaron Brice

    Aaron graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Bioengineering from Rice University where he specialized in biomechanics and biomaterials. He worked as mechanical engineer before he started teaching at an inner-city high school in Miami, FL in 2005. His love of teaching and of exploring different cultures and languages led him to move to China where he spent two years teaching at an international school at the base of the Himalayas while learning Mandarin and experiencing mouth-searing Sichuan cuisine. Most recently, Aaron taught in Belo Horizonte, Brazil where he integrated sustainability topics like alternative energy production and organic farming into the science curriculum. Aaron’s passions are food, music, and exploring the outdoors.

  • Charlotte Quesada

    Charlotte has nine years of teaching experience beginning in the Teton County School District, then at the Bush School and the Seattle Girls’ School in Seattle, Washington, and most recently at Journeys School and the Jackson Hole Community School. Charlotte loves sharing the Spanish language and culture with her students. She relies heavily upon her experiences living abroad, traveling throughout Latin America and Spain, and working with Spanish speakers here in Jackson to make learning in the classroom relevant and engaging. In her free time, Charlotte enjoys spending time with her family and friends, biking, cooking, reading and traveling.

  • Heather Marks

    With 15 years of professional experience in education, Heather has worked with students and teachers from urban, suburban and rural communities in California, Michigan, Illinois, and the Rocky Mountain region. She was part of the founding faculty at Journeys School and taught high school math and science until 2006. In 2010, Heather moved into the college counseling office to implement a comprehensive college counseling program in order to help students explore possibilities for their future. She is passionate about guiding students through one of their first life changing decision making processes and enjoys the monumental task of getting to know students and colleges very well in order to propose a meaningful match. Heather enjoys cooking, dancing, travel and exploring the wilderness of Wyoming with her husband and young son.

  • Mark Leichliter

    Mark brings over twenty years of university teaching, editing and writing experience to Journeys School. He regularly publishes short fiction and essays in a variety of literary marketplaces in addition to freelance article writing. He taught English at the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Wyoming. Many of his former students have succeeded in publishing their work and many former students have gone on to enroll in MFA programs in creative writing. When he’s not  writing or teaching, Mark enjoys photography, backpacking, kayaking, skiing and bicycling, as well as spending time with his wife and three daughters.

    Erin is excited to use her engineering background to serve a greater purpose. Last year she left a secure career at a prestigious consulting engineering firm to work on a new innovation in water treatment for disaster victims. She was a teaching assistant and tutor at California Polytechnic University and taught engineering principals at the high school level. She is enthusiastic about using her real world experience with math and technology to teach and inspire her students. Erin’s combination of education, experience and enthusiasm will be a great asset to Journeys School.
