The Pre-Kindergarten at Teton Valley Community School incorporates the best practices in early childhood education as researched and outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The Pre-Kindergarten program is inspired by the innovative early education centers of Reggio Emilia, Italy.
At the heart of this system is the powerful image of the child. Rather than seeing children as empty vessels that require filling with facts, Reggio educators believe children are full of potential, competent, and capable of building their own theories about the world in which they live.
During our two year progression, teachers facilitate multi-faceted investigations based on the children's questions and interests. Throughout the evolution of an investigation (or project), motor and cognitive skills are practiced with the added benefit of problem-solving, teamwork, and acquiring a joy of learning. Students also participate in the farm and garden enrichment program on a weekly basis.
