Teton Science Schools will offer training on place-based education for Wyoming kindergarten through 2nd grade teachers. The training will prepare teachers to take students outside and into their community. This 4-day teacher training will provide exposure to place-based teaching pedagogies and activities to connect students to their community. Teachers will plan and work collaboratively to implement what they have learned and experienced.
By training lower elementary teachers in place-based education, the hundreds of students who these teachers work will spend more time outdoors and will become more connected to their community and place.
We will measure the success of this workshop through analysis of the kinds of activities and curriculum being used in these teachers’ classrooms post-training. In the recent needs assessment of WY education conducted by Teton Science Schools, WY teachers and administrators reported a need for connecting schools more closely to the local communities. This training for lower elementary teachers will provide teachers with ideas and resources for helping to more closely connect their schools with the local communities.
There is a $50 registration fee, and a $150 stipend is available.
Participants will be eligible for 2 Credits through the University of Wyoming or WY Professional Teachers Standards Board
