Fall 2007 - Spring 2008
Location: Jackson Campus of Teton Science Schools
This workshop is designed to instruct teachers in the process of action research. With this instruction, participants will be empowered to make change within classrooms and schools. Teachers will critically study their own practice and use colleagues as well as current research to develop strategic plans to better meet the needs of diverse learners in the fields of math and science. This course includes a yearlong commitment to working within a group to share best practices and support colleagues in the action research process. Note: the project portion of this course begins in fall 2007 and culminates and is graded in spring 2008.

The Science and Math of Global Climate Change
July 20-24, 2008
Location: Jackson Hole, Wyoming
When you ask people about climate change, they are quick to talk politics, overshadowing the math and science behind the issue. Climate change has quickly become a hot topic in many classrooms. Tools will be presented for teachers to do the same with their students. The workshop will include conversations with experts in the field including prominent
scientists currently participating in a National Science Foundation climate change project, hands-on activities including a field-day to core trees with a dendrochronologist, training from a GLOBE facilitator and support for classroom implementation that meets state standards. Continuing Education Units available.

$60, Airport shuttle (pick-up/drop-off)

International Projects:
Guatemala: In March 2006, Teton Science Schools' Teacher Learning Center, in collaboration with HELPS International, provided EPA-funded training for teachers in rural Guatemala. Teachers learned strategies and developed place-based indoor air quality curriculum designed to meet Guatemala's Ministry of Education 2006 curriculum standards.
Bhutan: In the fall of 2006, the Teton Science Schools' Teacher Learning Center participated in preparing a proposal to introduce and implement a process of place-based education in schools in Bhutan. That proposal resulted in the visit of the Secretary of the Ministry of Education in Bhutan to Teton Science Schools in September 2006.
