Avery grew up on a small farm in northern Idaho where her love for rivers and sustainable food systems began. She recently graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA where she studied Politics and Government & Environmental Policy and Decision Making. While in college she spent most of her time learning as much as she could about water policy and the impacts of conventional agriculture systems on our watersheds. Avery has spent the past four summers working as a river guide in Hells Canyon on the Snake River and the Salmon River. Her deep connection with the waters of the West has informed her desire to investigate the ways in which water and other natural resources foster community and care. She looks forward to learning more about place-based education and connecting people to the outdoors at TSS. In Avery’s free time, she loves to hike, create art with friends, find the best sitting rocks, attempt to re-create bakes from the Great British Bake Off, and swim in any river.
