Emerson has long felt a strong sense of place thanks to having grown up exploring the Cascade Mountains of Washington, where his curiosity towards natural science grew alongside his interest in the culture and language of his Mexican and Mexican-American neighbors. At The Evergreen State College, Emerson explored this fusion of social and environmental callings while studying abroad in Peru. In 2019, he completed an M.A. in Applied Spanish through Middlebury College, which included 9 months living in Madrid, Spain. Emerson enjoys supporting students in building bridges between academic disciplines, developing cultural curiosity through Spanish study, and adopting practices that promote effective executive functioning.
