Daylight Saving Time Begins
Don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour Sunday morning, March 8!
Driving on Campus
There have been a few near-misses on campus coinciding with winter driving conditions this season. Please watch your speed and drive carefully on Coyote Canyon Road. Thank you for making safety a priority.
Thank you to everyone who helped support the NWAIS accreditation visit, and a special thank you to Coleen Regan and Addie Hare for their help feeding the visiting team. The accreditation process was very valuable in so many ways, and we will most likely get the visiting team's final report in May.
Pennies for Patients Fundraiser
Now - Friday, March 20
Journeys School's Pennies for Patients fundraiser through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society began on Monday March 2nd and will go through Friday March 20th. There are collection boxes in the high school for each grade and we'll have events each week to promote the cause and grade level websites where families and friends can donate money online. This is an awesome cause! The money we raise goes directly to treatment for families affected by blood cancers along with research to find new ways to treat cancer. The last time Journeys School participated (in 2011), we raised $3,300 - more than 3 times the average amount schools collect. Let’s see if we can raise over $5,000 this year!
Calling all Electronic Devices
Next month middle school students will be dissecting electronic gadgets as part of our electronics unit. If you have any old keyboards, cameras, remote controls, VCRs (remember those?!), DVD players, printers, cell phones, iPods, radios, walkie talkies, etc. that you would not mind being irreparably torn into, we would love to collect them for dissection (no TVs, please). They do not need to be in working order (we are looking at and identifying the internal components and circuitry) and if they are working, they won’t be by the time the students are finished with their dissections. Please make sure that you are willing to permanently part with any gizmos that you donate to the collection. Donations can be sent to school with your child. Please contact Sarah Kate at email@example.com with questions.
Spelling Bee Champion!
Congratulations to Kai McClennen, our 2015 Scripps National Spelling Bee champion. Kai and approximately twenty other students in grades 3-8 tested their spelling skills last Friday. Kai won after twenty two spelling rounds with the word “ipso facto”. He will be representing Journeys School on March 21st at the state spelling bee in Rock Springs. Good luck!
Parent volunteers are encouraged to assist with community lunch. To volunteer, please arrive in the dining lodge at 11:40 am. All lunches include garden fresh salad, orange slices, cookies and milk.
