5th Grade Happenings
There is a mandatory 5th grade capstone journey meeting on Wednesday, April 26th at 5:30 pm. This is a meeting for parents AND students. We will be discussing specifics of the trip such as the trip itinerary, packing lists, etc. This is a great meeting to ask questions as well. We know it is Learning Team Meeting time and we apologize for adding another thing to your plate, but we want to make sure you have plenty of time between the meeting and the trip to prepare.
Additionally, the 5th graders will be journeying to the Rec Center with Aaron Pruzan (trip leader) and some teachers to learn and practice some skills for the trip. This will be the morning of Friday, April 28th. We will be leaving promptly at 8:40 and returning right before the first afternoon rotation. Students will need to bring a swimsuit and towel, as well as a change of clothes. Please make sure your child has a field lunch for that day since we will not have a place to heat things up. We will send these reminders next week as well :)
If you have any questions or are not able to attend the meeting, please contact Megan.
Fairy Tale Celebrations
Once Upon a Time, in an elementary school far far away, three classes came together for a celebration and feast. These children had slayed setting dragons, conquered story structure, mastered the art of word choice, and comparing and contrasting works of fiction. In order to honor those noble souls, a morning was devoted to sharing what they had learned on their personal quests. You are hereby invited, gentle reader, to a celebration of the knowledge that students have acquired. Clear your calendar and join us on Thursday April, 27th from the hours of 8:30-10:00. Plays will be presented, stories shared, and lights dimmed as we all enter into an elementary fairy tale. See actual details below...
Thursday, April 27th will be a day for cross-level fairy tale celebration that includes Megan, Shannon, and Rachael's literacy classes.
8:30- Second Grade Plays
9:00- Third Grade Shadow Puppet Play
9:30- Fifth Grade Stories
Parents are welcome to join in on the fun and learning.
Friday afternoon will be an all school celebration for Earth Day! Beginning at 12:30, K-5th grade students will participate in activities to explore the Earth's resources. At 1:30, Kindergarten and 1st graders will join PreK for gardening, outdoor exploration, and service. 5th graders will join 6th and 7th graders in a campus clean-up, including removing invasive species. 2nd-4th graders will be participating in upcycling projects and citizen science activities. To culminate the day's celebration, we will all disperse into family groups and hear about high school's Memorial Garden and then all participate in a science march to the pick-up circle.
Vising Artist in Spanish
Fourth and fifth grade students had the opportunity to meet with visiting artist Veronica Gerber Bicecci to explore ideas of translation and migration in both English and Spanish. Students engaged in discussion, reflection and artistic representation of big ideas. This workshop was in collaboration with Michelle Fullenkamp and the Art Association of Jackson Hole. Their work and ideas will help inform the community project "Art(e) in Translation: exploring identity, language and sense of place through art."
