Pre-k teachers are excited to experiment with new sign-ins! This year, children will be practicing signing their names to model what print looks like. Please encourage your child to sign in independently. Teachers save children’s sign-ins to track their writing throughout the year. It is not uncommon for children in the first year program to begin their sign-ins using a fist grip and scribbles, these scribbles eventually transform into letters and a pincer grip as children develop. Teachers intentionally meet children where they are developmentally and support them accordingly. Thank you to all parents for supporting us with sign-ins!
If you have aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. that want to be added to our daily documentation email list please let us know.
Drop off and Pick up
Drop off time is between 8:15am - 8:45am. This is an important time of day for children to prepare for their day. Children use this time to put their things away, sign-in, read the morning message with a parent, and say hello to friends and teachers. We ask that children do not arrive before 8:15am (8:00 for families with older siblings in Journeys School). If you are running late you can bring your child to school after 9:30, when a teacher will be available to help your child transition and answer the door. We appreciate your understanding and support.
Departure time is between 3:00-3:30pm. You will find us in the play yard reading a story, singing a song, or wrapping up our day. You are welcome to come get your child as soon as you arrive. Please plan accordingly and help things run smoothly by picking up your pre-k student by 3:20/3:25pm to leave yourself enough time to leave by 3:30pm. Erin, Emmy, and Paige have a meeting promptly at 3:30pm everyday so will need to excuse ourselves. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Since the weather can change so much throughout the fall season, please bring a rain jacket and rain boots for your child everyday. They can be stored in their cubby when not needed.
Water bottles and Sleepy Stuff
Each Friday please bring your child’s water bottle and sleepy stuff home to wash. Water bottles will be in the wooden boxes in the mud room. Sleepy stuff will be put in cubbies each Friday. During the week, sleepy stuff will be stored in labeled bags in either the Moran room or the Teewinot Room.
Please bring sleepy stuff for your child even if they are not napping. During rest and relaxation time children are asked to listen to a story, look at picture book, listen to an audio book or play with a quiet toy on their sleepy mat. Therefore it is helpful to have sleepy stuff for each child. Thank you in advance for your support.
R Park Journeys
We are excited to be going on monthly journeys to the R park to explore natural spaces throughout the year! We are thrilled to have the chance to call the R Park our special place and to get to know it well throughout the seasons! We may decide to extend the times of these journeys at some point or need to cut them a little short if weather becomes really stormy, but in general we will aim to be outside rain or shine! So check the weather and make sure to pack warm layers and sneakers or boots as the weather dictates.
We will depart school by 8:45am each morning and return by 11:15am for the dates listed below. We will always pack a snack, water and/or warm tea or hot cocoa for children. You can help us get ready for these journeys by making sure that you apply sunscreen to your child, dress them in appropriate layers for that day, and try to provide your child with a hearty breakfast. Your children will get a chance to go at least once a month, if not twice if they come to school on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays as we will go with the whole group each time.
The following is a list of upcoming journey dates:
September 19 & 20: R Park Journeys
October 17 & 18: R Park Journeys
We hope you will join us for our first Parent Night of the 2017-2018 school year: Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 5:30-7:30 in the Pre-K classroom. Parent Nights are a way that we communicate about our program, as well as a time for our community of parents and teachers to socialize. You don’t want to miss this important and informative evening! We will provide more information next week regarding childcare. Please rsvp through the paperless post sent out.
Every week a family will bring healthy, organic snacks to share with the class. We encourage fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese sticks, and other fresh foods. A schedule, along with a list of great examples of snacks can be found in your child’s folder at school. Reminders will be posted here (in Friday announcements) weekly. Please let Emmy know if your family has a conflict with the week you are scheduled.
