High School Announcements
The school has revised its activities shuttle policy to better ensure that all students may have a ride from Journeys School to Teton County School District schools every afternoon in order to take part in extra-curricular activities outside of Journeys School. Please click here to read the revised policy. If you have any questions, please contact David Porter at 734-9866 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Winter Journey Dates
A quick reminder about the winter journey for your planning purposes: Please block off February 15-17, 2012 on your schedule for your students to participate. A reminder, too, that we will have early dismissal when we get back from the Kelly Campus at 2:30pm on February 17.
Friday, February 3
Ethan will take the high school robotics team to the Montana FTC Championship Tournament to be held on February 3, 2012 in Shroyer Gymnasium on the MSU campus in Bozeman. The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in competitions designed by Dean Kamen, Dr. Woodie Flowers, and a committee of engineers and other professionals.
Saturday, February 4
The Jackson Hole High School Winter Ball will take place February 4 at Jackson Hole High School (JHHS). Journeys School students are invited to take part. Please click here to read two documents from JHHS. They provide information about the dance, dress code, and behavioral expectations. If you have any questions, please contact David at email@example.com or 734-9866. In addition, Journeys students must help with setup and cleanup of the dances that take place at the public high school. Students are asked to volunteer their time for this task. If we do not have student participation then Journeys School students will not be allowed to attend dance functions at the public high school. Please help!
High School P.E. Update
It is a new semester! There is NEW fun on the horizon and it involves the ever popular ice rink on campus. Starting next week we will begin our broomball unit. So put those padded snow pants on and be ready to slide around the ice. Students will need to wear FULL winter gear: snow pants, boots, coat, hat, gloves. They may remember it referred to as “the Big 5” in the elementary days. So ditch the skate shoes and put on a hat for we will be outside for most of February!
Spanish Class Update
The ninth and tenth grade students are beginning the semester with a unit called “Derechos y Deberes” where they are reflecting on their rights and obligations as a student, as a member of their family, and as a citizen of the world. As they learn the future and conditional tenses, they will incorporate them into actions they can do to become better citizens. Using this theme, on February 6 and 8 we will venture into the Jackson community to fulfill our commitment to community and service. At the Jackson Senior Center, where senior citizens have been learning Spanish, Journeys School classes will serve “almuerzo” and help create a Spanish-speaking luncheon for community members young and old to practice their Spanish! Many thanks to Kelly Clark at the Senior Center for coordinating and menu planning to allow this incredible experience!
