Winter Journey Dates
February 15-17

A quick reminder about the winter journey for your planning purposes: Please block off February 15-17, 2012 on your schedule for your students to participate. A reminder, too, that we will have early dismissal when we get back from the Kelly Campus at 2:30pm.

New Semester, New Electives
New electives are starting in the 3rd quarter. Enrollment will take place the week of January 23. Students in 9th and 10th grades who did not take PE in the fall are required to do so in the spring. Those who did take PE in the fall are welcome to take it again in the spring. Other offerings are film animation, guitar, photography and a cappella.

Spanish Update
In conjunction with pARTners, the eleventh and twelfth grade Spanish classes will be concluding their fine arts unit with an intricate study of Frida Kahlo, her life, struggles, and artistic style. To prepare, students will watch and read various versions of her biography, and then create a mixed media self-portrait with guest artist Abby Pafarath. Students are reminded to bring in personal (but okay to use!) items to add to their art project. Students will also be writing biographies of other well-known artists, musicians, or dancers that have been influential in the Spanish-speaking world and presenting them in writing as well as orally in class. Muchas gracias a Abby Pafarath and pARTners for their help in this fun project!

Reminders About Mornings
The Upper Parking Lot is for teachers only. If you are a high school student, please park below and walk up. If you are a parent, please drop off your student at the welcome center by 8:00am so they have plenty of time to get to the high school. Also, the high school is experiencing a rash of consistent tardies among the students. Daily practice starts at 8:15am! Please be on time!

Correction to the Robotics Update (date change)
Friday, February 3

Ethan will take the high school robotics team to the Montana FTC Championship Tournament to be held on February 3, 2012 in Shroyer Gymnasium on the MSU campus in Bozeman. The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in competitions designed by Dean Kamen, Dr. Woodie Flowers, and a committee of engineers and other professionals.

Winter Ball
Saturday, February 4

The Jackson Hole High School Winter Ball will take place February 4 at Jackson Hole High School (JHHS). Journeys School students are invited to take part. Please click here to read two documents from JHHS. They provide information about the dance, dress code, and behavioral expectations. If you have any questions, please contact David at david.porter@journeysschool.org or 734-9866. In addition, Journeys students must help with setup and cleanup of the dances that take place at the public high school. Students are asked to volunteer their time for this task. If we do not have student participation then Journeys School students will not be allowed to attend dance functions at the public high school. Please help!
