Pura Vida and Rising Educators

Empowering Latine Youth Through Leadership, Education, and Outdoor Exploration

Join free, immersive programs for students in the Jackson area that celebrate culture, foster community, and prepare future leaders through unforgettable outdoor adventures and real-world experiences.

Pura Vida

Pura Vida is a free outdoor leadership program for Latine students from the Jackson area. It is designed to develop leadership skills, build friendships and community, and explore Grand Teton National Park. Students will learn outdoor skills, discover local plants and animals, and celebrate their cultural heritage. 

 

Pura Vida Spring Break Internship is for high school students during spring break and provides a stipend as well as outdoor opportunities like snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and a sleigh ride at the Elk Refuge. Pura Vida Middle School is in the summer and provides outdoor opportunities like hiking, canoeing, and whitewater rafting.

Rising Educators

Rising Educators is a paid internship program for Latine high school students in the Jackson area. Youth gain real-world experience as educators, practice teaching and communication skills, and become community leaders. The program prepares students for careers in education, organizational leadership, conservation, and more. 

Local educators and park rangers, leaders, and business entrepreneurs teach the paid professional development sessions and training days.

  • Training: 4, 8-hour days on non-school days includes CPR, outdoor skills, and more
  • Professional Development: 5, 2-hour professional development nights with dinner included
  • Summer Camp Job: Organizations vary. Previous hosts include: Teton County Parks and Recreation, Teton Literacy Center, Coombs Outdoors; Children’s Learning Center; Jackson Hole History Society & Museum; Jackson Hole Children’s Museum 
The Rising Educators program is coordinated by Teton Science Schools, Grand Teton National Park, and steering committee members, and it is made possible by the Grand Teton National Park Foundation.
