Looking to Winter Journey
As the snow starts to fly here in Coyote Canyon, the Upper School begins to look forward to when the now grassy surrounds outside will be covered in the beautiful white stuff. As we look deeper into the Winter, we will be taking our Winter Journey to the TSS Kelly Campus from 02/27-03/02.
We will spend our time studying snow science and winter wildlife adaptations as we ski and snowshoe around the Kelly Campus area. We will also look inside ourselves as we are led in reflective analysis of literature and delve into recording our thoughts based upon senior class led journal prompts. It will be a time to do what human beings have done for thousand of years during the cold days of Winter. We will keep warm, keep moving, and keep thinking.

Community Focus – Grant Ross…Math Teacher
I am a teacher who loves mathematics and wants to inspire my students. I have a STEM background and experience working in an international context including different learners and settings. I know that math can be challenging and dull for many people. I try to make it fun and relevant. I want to help my students understand core concepts of math without getting lost in technical jargon. I want to show them how math can be applied to real-life situations.
I grew up in Maryland, where I developed two passions: the outdoors and airplanes. I studied Mechanical Engineering, but I realized that I want to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with young people. That’s why I moved to this beautiful place, where I can enjoy nature and teach math. I know that being outdoors helps students learn and grow in different ways that reach beyond the classroom. I am thrilled to join this wonderful community and use math as a tool
for learning and creativity. I want my students to follow the advice of Albert Einstein: “Imagination is everything. It’s the preview of life’s coming attractions. ”I look forward to meeting you and working together.

Student Corner – Jackson Kinney
My name is Jackson with the nickname “Buga” (pronounced boo-guh). I very much enjoy skiing at high speeds, though I’m not too good at jumps, drops, tricks and all of that stuff. My favorite food is steak, my favorite meal is steak, mashed potatoes and asparagus, and I recently found a food called spaghetti squash boats which are amazing. I love physical challenges and escape rooms, I like drinking half gallons of milk straight out of the jug and I love being silly/goofy/ridiculous. I also like fun exits. With that, sayonara!”
