Wyoming Youth Congress Still Timely Event in Year Two

On September 25, 2010, the New York Times reported that as of 2006, numbers of people hunting are down as much as 4.5 million people annually (see the full article here). Earlier in the month, the Casper Star Tribune reported that although numbers of visits to Grand Teton National Park are increasing, youth visitations to the park are continuing to decline (see the full article here).This year’s Wyoming Youth Congress on Children and Nature will be held October 14-17, 2010 at Teton Science Schools. The students will discuss the growing disconnect between children and the outdoors, and they will focus on action steps that can be taken in their home communities. In addition, the youth will have new statistics to look at. The Youth Congress will feature the release of preliminary data from the “Our Children and the Outdoors” 2010 Survey, conducted by the University of Wyoming’s Survey and Analysis Center for the Wyoming Governor’s Task Force on Recreation & Teton Science Schools. The final report will be released in early November 2010 and will be followed up by a media campaign sharing the data state-wide.
