Last month, the University of Wyoming College of Education hosted the annual Capstone Fair for the Wyoming Rural Teacher Corps, an inspiring event that showcased the work of second- and third-year corps members preparing to teach in Wyoming’s rural communities.
The Wyoming Rural Teacher Corps, a partnership between the University of Wyoming’s School of Teacher Education and Teton Science Schools, supports future educators through hands-on, community-rooted experiences. The Year 2+ participants showcased a wide range of self-directed projects, from presenting at national conferences to developing place-based curricula and collaborating on local conservation and literacy initiatives.
“These projects were entirely student-driven, built on each participant’s goals, and completed alongside coursework and student teaching,” said Dr. Alison Mercier, program lead. “It’s a testament to their passion and commitment to rural education.”
By combining academic support, professional mentorship, and real-world experience, the program equips new teachers to thrive in rural classrooms and build lasting connections in the communities they serve.
