Wyoming Teacher Corps

Wyoming Rural Teacher Corps

With a high need for educator recruitment and retention, the Rural Teacher Corps recruits and supports developing educators who want to teach in rural schools. The program is run in partnership with University of Wyoming (UW) and provides place-based training and support for pre-service teachers to prepare them to teach in rural Wyoming schools. Funding for the development and launch of the Wyoming Rural Teacher Corps has come from Rural Schools Collaborative, the George B. Storer Foundation, and the UW College of Education Dean’s Office.

Rural Teacher Corps Success Story

Pilot Wyoming Rural Teacher Corps member Charles Lallatin completed the program in 2022-23, his junior year at UW. During the summer 2023, Charles applied for and was offered a position at Lyman High School, where he also attended as a student. Charles was able to get provisional licensure to begin his teaching career while he completes his undergraduate degree and his teaching certification. This is a success of the Rural Teacher Corps program by getting a new teacher into a rural school in a rural community where he wants to live and work in the future. Charles was also the first recipient of the Mini-grant program to get supplies to outfit his classroom for the coming year.
