Elena is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and just graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine. She majored in Earth and Oceanographic Sciences and played ice hockey at Bowdoin. This past summer, she worked as an intern for the Huron River Watershed Council in Ann Arbor and conducted a dam removal project, river health monitoring, and environmental education for YMCA summer camps. Through her coursework at Bowdoin, she gained research experience and is excited to learn and do more. Her passion for conservation, environmental education, and earth sciences drove her to the TSS AmeriCorps program, where she could learn in such a unique park system and teach individuals along the way. In her free time, she enjoys all outdoor activities, playing music on the guitar and violin, listening to live music, and having bonfires with friends!
