Finalist! Understanding Local Implications of Global Climate Change

Amid appetizers, drinks and celebration, 1% for the Tetons announced eight grant proposals as 2011 finalist projects. The Conservation Research Center’s project, Understanding local implications of global climate change, was among the group. Our project will enhance understanding of the local implications of climate change in the Tetons area and will build on our existing pika (Ochotona princeps) research. In collaboration with our partners, we will generate regional temperature and precipitation projections which will provide a basis for climate adaptation strategies, applied wildlife management and future planning decisions in Jackson Hole.The eight finalist proposals have combined budgets of $377,635. They seek a total of $101,735 from 1% for the Tetons. Members of 1% for the Tetons will choose which projects they want their donations to support. Even better, donations will also be accepted online from nonmember individuals and businesses. This year, 1% for the Tetons will fully-fund any finalist project which receives non-member donations totaling 50% or more of the requested funds. Project applications can be viewed and donations made until midnight on June 30 at http://onepercentforthetetons.org/projects/. 1% hopes that all finalists receive enough money to pursue their project and make a difference in sustaining the Tetons region.
