Teton Science Schools is proud to announce that Rob Wallace, former Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of the Interior, will be the 2025 Murie Spirit of Conservation Award recipient. Amy Brennan McCarthy, Chief Executive Officer of the Teton Raptor Center, will receive this year’s “Local Legend Award.” Teton Science Schools will host the awards ceremony on September 2nd at the Murie Ranch, a National Historic Landmark.
The Murie Spirit of Conservation Award recognizes renowned conservation leaders whose work carries forward the legacy of the Muries. Olaus, Mardy, Adolph, and Louise Murie were trailblazing environmentalists who helped shape the modern conservation movement. The Wilderness Society’s Howard Zahniser drafted the Wilderness Act on Mardy’s front porch.
A Wyoming native and lifelong advocate for public lands, Rob Wallace has dedicated his career to conservation, spearheading bipartisan legislation to preserve our nation’s natural resources. From his work early on with the U.S. Senate to his tenure overseeing national parks, fish, wildlife, and land management agencies, Wallace has worked tirelessly to protect wild places, regardless of political trends. This award celebrates his immense impact on public policy and environmentalist efforts across the nation.
Amy Brennan McCarthy will be recognized for her leadership in advancing wildlife conservation and science-based community programs in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. She will receive the Local Legend Award.
Following a reception, the awards ceremony will be at 6:45 p.m. under the cottonwoods at the Murie Ranch, the birthplace of the modern conservation movement, where the Wilderness Society’s Howard Zahniser drafted the Wilderness Act.
