Language of Materials - Sewing with Children

Wednesday, February 11th

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm MDT

Price: $25

In the spirit of the Reggio Emilia atelier, there are a hundred languages and ways of listening, inventing, and possibilities in the mind of a child. Come join us on an exploration of the studio as you open your mind to new experiences through exploring the language of sewing in this virtual workshop. Our evening will begin with an introduction to experiencing sewing with children through past project examples. Participants will learn how to use tools as well as basic techniques for sewing, and how they can then do this with children. We will discuss different ways that sewing can be used with young children and the steps to set both children and teachers up for success. Following an instructional period, we will have time for open-ended exploration with materials sent to you prior to the workshop and a small group discussion. Come learn through play and exploration, and be inspired to use new materials and tools in your teaching practice while you connect with other early childhood educators. Just as we challenge children, we hope to challenge you to explore concepts and ideas through different lenses and perspectives with the aid of new materials, provocations, and play.

2 Wyoming STARS hours or a certification of completion are available to all attendees.

*To receive a package of materials, please make sure you sign up no later than January 30th, so we can make sure your package arrives in time. If you sign up after January 30th, you will receive a list of suggested materials to promote provocation and play.
