3rd Wyoming Youth Congress on Children and Nature

The 3rd Wyoming Youth Congress on Children & Nature and the first Junior Leadership Wyoming program will kick off on October 27 – 30, 2011. The Wyoming Youth Congress is an event that brings together two 8th graders – a boy and a girl – from each school district in Wyoming. The 8th graders are nominated by their school district superintendent to discuss the state of the connection between children and the outdoors in Wyoming, to participate in leadership development, and to generate ideas for getting more young people outside in their home communities. The supporters of the Wyoming Youth Congress include the George B Storer Foundation, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Explore Fund.

This year, Teton Science Schools, in partnership with the Murie Center and the National Outdoor Leadership School, will offer the first Junior Leadership Wyoming program. In its inagural year, Junior Leadership Wyoming will bring together alumni from the first 2 Wyoming Youth Congresses to share their stories with students in the 2011 Wyoming Youth Congress, to engage in further leadership development, and to create projects to take home to their own communities. Junior Leadership Wyoming will target alumni of the Youth Congress from the Casper, Saratoga, Lander and Jackson areas.

Slots are still open for adults who would like to come observe or co-facilitate at the Wyoming Youth Congress. Please contact Leslie Cook for more information at 307-733-1313.
