Mountain Academy Jackson Campus Middle Schoolers Shine at Statewide Lego Challenge Competition

This December, a group of talented Mountain Academy Jackson Campus students, including a third grader and a team of middle schoolers, traveled to Casper, Wyoming, to participate in the highly anticipated Statewide Lego Challenge competition. Representing the Coding Coyotes, our students competed in two exciting categories: a project-based challenge and a robotic obstacle course that tested their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Over the course of the school year, the Coding Coyotes dedicated countless hours to designing and building a sophisticated robot. Their robot was engineered to navigate a series of challenges, moving, lifting, and reorganizing various elements on a Lego map. The team’s hard work and innovation paid off in a big way when they not only successfully completed the obstacle course, but also performed impressively in the competition overall.

Out of a competitive field of 62 teams, the Coding Coyotes took home second place, earning an impressive 220 points. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, ingenuity, and collaborative spirit of our students, who embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and a drive to succeed.

For our students, this experience was not just about building robots—it was an opportunity to develop important skills such as critical thinking, coding, engineering, and teamwork. Working together to solve complex problems, they demonstrated the kind of creativity and resilience that will serve them well in their future endeavors.

After the event, the team was thrilled to return home with a Lego trophy, a symbol of their hard-earned success. The trophy was shared proudly with the Teton Science Schools community, a reminder of the incredible accomplishments of our students and the importance of fostering a passion for learning and discovery.

Looking ahead, the team is already excited about the future and eager to see what they can accomplish next. The skills and lessons learned throughout this competition will undoubtedly propel them toward even greater achievements, and we can’t wait to see how their journey unfolds in the years to come.

The Mountain Academy community is incredibly proud of our Coding Coyotes and their outstanding performance!
