Teton Science Schools & University of Wyoming Receive Math & Science Partnership Grant

We are thrilled to announce that the University of Wyoming and Teton Science Schools received a Math-Science Partnership grant that will be put into action this coming June, 2011! Through this partnership we will be working together to engage Wyoming teachers and their students in the exploration of their homes and local communities. The project is entitiled Place Learning And Civic Engagement (PLACE): Connecting elementary science to students’ home places.Through the PLACE project we, in conjunction with the University of Wyoming, will offer a year-long series of innovative workshops for teachers from Natrona County #1, Laramie County #1, and Carbon County #2 school districts. The workshops are targeted towards 3rd – 6th grade teachers, but can also include any elementary teachers who teach science. Our goal is for teachers to participate in teams from their schools to better foster communities of support and innovation as they work to put workshop theory and activities into practice.The content of the PLACE workshops will focus on place-based education, stream ecology and water quality monitoring, and implementation of learnings in the classroom. We are excited at this opportunity to strengthen our partnership with the University of Wyoming and to further extend our work in place-based science and education across the state.Many thanks to all who worked hard to develop the PLACE project and begin to make it a reality!
