Parallels of Gross National Happiness and Place-Based Education

During their time here at the Teacher Learning Center, the Bhutanese teacher delegation reflected that there are many similarities between place-based education and Bhutan’s recent focus on Education for Gross National Happiness. Gross National Happiness is Bhutan’s commitment to its people to focus more on the happiness of its people through the four pillars of: sustainable development, cultural values, the natural environment, and good governance. Teton Science Schools also recognizes the parallels of place-based education and Gross National Happiness and tailored the delegation’s experiences in Jackson Hole to make the connections evident.

As the delegation returns home to Bhutan, they maintain a strong commitment to implementing the place-based education practices in their schools and sharing their learnings with their colleagues.
