As Autumn arrives and Aspen show signs of turning, the Kelly Campus of Teton Science Schools welcomes twenty-one excellent candidates into our Graduate Program in science and education. This cohort comes together from across the United States and three foreign countries -Bhutan, Costa Rica, and the Czech Republic.Their first academic course, ‘Introduction to Field Science Teaching’, taught by combined faculty, included a study of Jackson Hole geology and a week-long backpacking trip along the Teton Crest Trail. ‘Place-based Education’, taught by Univeristy of Wyoming visiting scholar Dr. Kate Welch and Leslie Cook, followed with theory on teaching students about their home and environment. Currently, the students are studying forest ecology with biologist and naturalist Kevin Taylor and Dr. Doug Wachob.
After this initial September coursework, the graduate students begin their teaching practicum, where they will put their studies into action and teach science to young students from around Wyoming. All signs point towards a terrific year of study, teaching and learning!
